Had a similar experience recently, my husband has been ill and is looking for new work. A brother called out of the blue and was very kind and offered some contacts we could phone and write to. Encouraged by this kindness my husband phoned a sister he had worked with in the past, he only wanted an address from her. The day after the call he received an email that was so horrid I cried. She accused him of using her, told him she had spoken to elders that told her we were disfellowshipped, which is not true, and that she would not want my husband working in any of the places she worked. She said she would not recommend him nor should he use her name. None of these things applied as my husband only asked for an address. She finished by saying if we came back to Jehovah she would greet us with open arms. Wonderful; warms the heart doesnt it?

Forget what they say, most JWs do not believe the end is near...

during that time i repeatedly vocalized my belief that "the end is near.
" however, what did this cost me?

We pioneered in a very poor part of inner London, the brothers and sisters were very poor and extremely zealous and gave huge amounts to the society each month in contributions, they needed to believe the end was near; there was nothing else to look forward to.
Fast forward to an english speaking cong in scandanavia, no real enthusiasm for the end; nobody gave any money to the contributions, and they had plenty of money in comparison to the other congregation. It was quite funny to hear an elder and his wife that had just bought a new very expensive house, had an art gallery and pots of money....but also pioneered, speaking about how awful the world was and how close the end was. YEAH...we could see they believed that by their life style. ;;;Parrots!

Welcome! I have asked my husband about his approach to asking about fornication, adultery etc, he said if he was at a jc he just asked the couple or person if they knew what the two terms meant. If they said yes, then he asked if that was what had happened and then took it from there as to how they felt about it. No details were needed. Some brothers did not like this but if my husband was there then that was enough. I respect him for that, even though now he is ashamed he ever had anything to do with judging people.

a few people described how awkward they felt in doing it.
i felt like that for the longest time!

Praying together was awful, after two months of marriage we deceided that we would just do our own, end of story. Family study with hyperactive kids.....nightmare, we would do 5 minutes then stop, it saved our marriage. I even said that at an assembly we were asked about our family study, I told the truth, lots of sisters said they were so relieved to hear me say it. My husband never was any good at keeping record of his time, he was a pioneer and out all the time so he just put down from when he went out of the door until he came in. Great way of thinking now I come to ponder over it, at the time I was worried he was cheating.
Hated collecting a huge pile of magazines and worrying how to place them, that was in the days when we had to pay for them and we had little money. I hated the tract work, each pioneer was given something like 500 tracts to place, I shoved them everywhere.
Hated the blood card, never carried it, hated the blood documents, never filled them out. The list goes on..................

we had several "talent" shows over the years in my original congregation - it was the only annual gathering more nauseating that the meetings.. my friend and i would always bring our walkmans and blare heavy metal in the back - hoping to block out the embarassing crap on the stage.you always had a few older ones get up on stage and slaughter a kingdumb song.

Lady Viola's video was great! Must be english humour but we had the same kind in my congregation when I was growing up. One of our elders had been in showbusiness and he just could not suppress it. During the 70's everytime he had an item on the service meeting, he just went overboard. For the kids it was just brilliant. I remember being chased down the hall with brother shaking a broom after me, he slipped on the runner and went flying, this was to show early persecution of the witnesses in the 1920's.
We had little dramas to show how to place the truth book, we all dressed up as pirates once and found a chest filled with truth books, we enacted Daniel and friends drama, my little chubby brother was an angel but got burnt on a lamp that was too near his dress. We had a special pioneer dress up as a vicar(he loved Monty Python), then two pioneer sisters came in as hippies throwing flowers to the audience.
We had practise sessions for the persecution; double sided coats and violin cases with literature; we even had the windows blacked out and the lights turned off and a brother was shouting and banging on the door saying it was the police and they knew we were in there. For a kid it was so exciting and spooky. We had a drama with the Christmas carol of all things as a theme; the brother dressed up as Scrooge in a night dress and then some how the truth got into the drama, as you can imagine things were getting a little out of hand and I guess it had to stop. It did.
We had the visit of a very strict CO and our dear brother had his part on the service meeting and as part of his item he sat at the piano and sang ROLL OUT THE BARREL, which is a drinking song in the pubs in England, well I can't remember how he got the service item to tie in but one thing is for sure; the CO's face was like thunder. So ended the era of fun at the meetings. If I could have space the things we did were actually so far out and fun that I cannot understand how it went on for so long other than that everyone enjoyed it so much.
Last one.....very chubby sweet pioneer sister had to hitch her skirt up and swank down the hall to wolf whistles from "worldly" bystanders, the brother then asked what was the problem for the sister, the hall was in stitches., who says the north of england is boring!

How did you dispose of all those excess magazines?
by chicken little inwe were always told not to throw away literature, so just what did we do with it all?
i know that i would sneak it into the bin for recycling quite regularly.
my parents kept all the magazines for over 20 years in ritz boxes in a cupboard, they all went yellow and smelt wierd.

My parents kept all the magazines for over 20 years in Ritz boxes in a cupboard, they all went yellow and smelt wierd. They all got thrown out when they moved house.
I remember when I was pioneering leaving it in washrooms, what a cheek I think now. The funniest experience was when we stopped as witnesses, we took all the literature....all of it...over 40 years of collection and put it into the recycle bin over the road from us. As my husband was carrying the aid to bible understanding and other noticeable books over, some brothers and sisters pulled up to say hello. My hubby just waved and said he would be over in a minute and then calmly threw the lot in the bin with the brothers watching. Classic.

kwabena afum was arrested last week tuesday and granted a police enquiry bail the next day for causing panic and chaos by allegedly mobilizing some members of his church to foment trouble at the hospital.. .

Its interesting this thread of about the refusal of blood transfusions in an african country. The number of women that die in child birth or shortly afterwards is still very high in African countries. The women at risk are even more vunerable if they are Jws. This has had little attention given to it in the media when dealing with Jws, but the facts show that the increase among the witnesses is in third world countries. This means that the women and babies are in a much higher risk group than normal, given their stand on blood.
With regards to the regecting of the little boy, I had a study with a nigerian woman in the 80's, she ran off with another man and left her child with her husband. The baby was his but he refused to have it, he gave it away for adoption, the shame of keeping his unfaithful wifes child was not to be born. I begged him to change his mind, and his other children cried and pleaded, but he sent the child away. I often wonder about that boy. So the story is believeqble to my ears.
